Miyazome is said to trace its roots back to the Edo Period (1600–1868), when dyers relocated to areas near the Tagawa River in order to dye the cotton materials produced in the thriving cotton-growing region of Moka.
Each piece of material is dyed with the utmost care: paste, wax and so forth are used to create patterns on refined fabrics and chemical dyes used for chusen, shinsen, hikizome and other dyeing approaches.
