Karasuyama Tesuki-washi is said to date back to the 8th century.
This paper is made by hand using kozo (paper mulberry) as the main ingredient. Varieties include hodomura-shi, santome-gami, oshie-gami and some-gami. Karasuyama Tesuki-washi was designated by the national government as an intangible cultural property in 1977.
