In 1842, Arai Kiemon brought hoki-morokoshi (broom corn) seeds with him to this area and planted them on a trial basis, which is said to be the origin of this craft.
The hamaguri (common orient clam) shape of the portion connecting the handle and the brush section is unique and gave rise to the naming "hamaguri-boki" (hamaguri broom). Some brooms feature carved patterns on the handle for a more distinctive look.
