History (Origins)

The roots of Sugi-senko can be traced back to 1864 when Adachi Shigeshichi produced stick incense from Japanese cedar leaves in what is now Nikko City. This cedar was widely available in the area, which helped the industry to flourish.

Characteristics (Techniques and Materials)

These incense sticks are characterized by their natural cedar aroma. Their main ingredient is Japanese cedar leaves ground to a powder using a water wheel.
