Boards, rectangular timber and so forth made of Japanese Zelkova, Japanese persimmon, Japanese horse-chestnut and other such woods are assembled using various techniques, including hagiawase, aigaki, and hozokumi. The result is final products that consistently offer gorgeous wood-grain patterns.
