History (Origins)

Starting in the Ansei Era (1854–60), this production region served as one of Japan's top three paulownia-wood geta production bases in addition to Shizuoka and Hiroshima. The sandals were shipped out from here to Edo (Tokyo).

Characteristics (Techniques and Materials)

Among the various types of geta, a traditional type of footwear imbued with Japanese spirit and culture, paulownia geta are particularly lightweight and comfortable to wear. They are also characterized by their warmth.
