Characteristics(Techniques and Materials)

High-quality Bassia scoparia (burningbush) grown locally is primarily used as the material for the broom's brushes. Kanuma-hoki (Kanuma brooms) come in multiple varieties, including the hamaguri-gata type, named for the hamaguri (common orient clam) shape of the section connecting the handle with the brush; the Tokyo-gata type, an improved version of the original; the handle-less tomoe-gata (which includes the kawari-gata type from Tsuga); and other compact brooms.
