Kamoncho-dansu filing cabinets and chests were made during the Edo Period (1600–1868) to store account books, products, cash and other such items. Family crests, trade names and similar were often carved or engraved on the locks, decorative fasteners, etc. Daruma-todana, on the other hand, either have a shape reminiscent of traditional Daruma dolls or else are used for displaying such dolls, which is why the name Daruma-todana is used.
Edo Period (1600–1868) joinery techniques are the base for these products' manufacture, but other unique techniques and methods have been incorporated as well.
Planing is carried out using hand tools, resulting in a uniquely elegant finish.
