History (Origins)

Developed and improved upon during the Edo Period (1600–1868).

Characteristics (Techniques and Materials)

Individual bamboo sticks are carefully placed to create these birdcages, each of which exudes a unique delicacy, refinement and warmth. The four corner posts are hollow like straws, with a bamboo posts inserted into the middle of each to achieve a sturdier construction.
