History (Origins)

Since long ago, farmers in this region have produced kanchiku-bamboo baskets, sieves and so forth for use in their region as side work to complement their primary agricultural occupations.

Characteristics (Techniques and Materials)

With kanchiku-kogei ware, the bamboo is not split into fine strips as usual before being weaved together. This means that the weaving is arduous, but the result is exceptionally tough and durable tools that leverage the strength of the bamboo's skin.
